The place of natural, built and cultural heritage in Australian society is now regarded as a major driver of regional development in cities and towns across the nation. Both Australian and inter-national visitors are drawn to the heritage of place to satisfy their curiosity about how these places came to be; who were the people involved, what industry did they develop, how did they impact their environment and what legacy did they leave for us to experi-ence today?
At the 2006 ANZRSAI conference to be held at La Trobe Uni-versity’s heritage campus in the historic town of Beechworth in the beautiful natural landscape of north eastern Victoria we will explore the role of heritage in regional development, along with the other regional development interests shared by regional devel-opment practitioners, consultants and academics.
With key note addresses from innovators in heritage and regional development, government ministers, senior government of.cials and others with an interest in the place of heritage in Australian society the conference will provide practical insights to any place which claims natural, built or cultural heritage as a part of their regional development.
